IMMIB Industrial Design Contests
İMMİB Industrial Design Contests are a series of activities that İMMİB performs to contribute for the development of industrial design in Turkey, to facilitate bringing together design with the Turkish industrialist, and to contribute for the quality and quantity of exports as a result of reinforcing the design aspect of production. The contest, which was initially organized in 2005, is to be held for the fifth time this year in cooperation with the Industrial Designers Society of Turkey (ETMK).
IMMIB Industrial Design Contests offer awards in various categories; and every year, one person is awarded with education-abroad. Award for education-abroad is provided in each product category for both student and professional categories. The students and professionals of design, who meet under the umbrella of the contest, benefit from the opportunities provided by IMMIB, find the opportunity to have education at elegant schools abroad, and raise their voices at various fairs.
In the brief history of the contest for the last four years, the participation of nearly 1000 projects in total has been obtained; and 151 projects have been awarded so far, 35 in 2005, 54 in 2006, 26 in 2007 and 46 in 2008. The owners of the first-price winner designs are welcomed by IMMIB at various activities abroad such as fairs, courses and seminars. In 2006, IMMIB provided the participation of all professional category first prize winner designers to Hong Kong Houseware Fair. In 2007, the Association sent all its first-prize winner designers to a design course at Domus Academy in Milano, Italy, which is one of the world’s leading design academies. In 2008, 7 designers were sent to one-year long design courses at major design academies abroad, and their training and living expenses have been covered by DTM and IMMIB. The winners of the year 2008 were also welcomed at Frankfurt Ambiente fair, which is the biggest kitchen and household appliances fair of the world, where the National Participation Organization was realized by IMMIB. The winners of 2008 are provided with the opportunity to introduce their products to the industry at IMMIB Trend Area, which was established by the association and where the products of Turkish companies, the cuisine of Turkey, and the products of famous Turkish designers were exhibited.
2009 IMMIB Industrial Design Contests are held in three different categories as metal kitchen appliances, plastic household and kitchen appliances, and electrical-electronic small household appliances. Each product category is subdivided into professional and student sub-categories. This year, the total value of the awards to be distributed reaches TL 141,000 in total, and one person from both professional and student categories of each product group will be sent to abroad for training, and the training and living expenses of these people shall be covered by DTM and IMMIB for one year.
